Coronation Street bosses are lining up one of their most controversial storylines ever that will see David Platt become be victim of male rape.
The issue of male rape has never been tackled by the ITV soap before but the show’s top bosses believe it’s time they tackled such a sensitive issue.
Thousands of men are raped every year and the show’s writing team hope they can shine a light on the issue and help real life victims to talk about their ordeal.
In January a new character called Josh will arrive on the cobbles. Described by the Daily Mirror as a charming mechanic and part time personal trainer, he will quickly make friends with some of the locals, including David – played by Jack P Shepherd.
But following a drunken night out, David will wake up one Josh’s bed and realise he’s been raped.
Bosses have decided not to show the sex assault but will focus on the fall out as David tries to come to terms with what has happened to him.
