Jamie Lomas says his future on EastEnders is uncertain as he’s only contracted until July this year.
The former Hollyoaks star is playing boozy Jake Stone in the BBC’s flagship show, and he says he hopes he can stay longer.
Jacqueline Jossa, who plays his screen mistress Lauren Branning, has revealed her character is going to be single for a while.
That has sparked speculation amongst fans about whether Jake has a future in Walford, especially seeing as it’s been confirmed his wife Sadie is leaving.
But Jamie would love the chance to stay on.
He said: “I’m contracted until July and then it depends on whether they want to keep me or not. But I would live to stay, look at the people I get to work with every day, it’s so exciting.
“EastEnders is a great place to work, I’m working with great people everyday. As an actor what more do you want?
“This is the BBC’s flagship show and the best show on TV if you ask me.
“I think it suits my style of acting, it’s real, gritty, it’s more like a drama than a soap. I love being there, I’m so happy at the moment.
“Jake is off the rails at the moment and I love it because it’s so different from what I’m used to. It’s nice to be able to show people what else I can do.”
The actor, who was recently granted a divorce from Corrie’s Kym Marsh, refused to talk about his relationship with her.
He said: “All I’ll say is that I’m in a really good place at the moment. I don’t want to talk about my private life, I want to keep it private for the sake of my children.”
